Meet the team

Jakki Moore

Jakki is the Director of Moore Arts: Millom, she founded the company in 2007 following three years running ’South Copeland Youth Theatre’ in Millom. Moore Arts: Millom is a limited company that promotes the arts within the rural community of Millom in Cumbria.

Jakki has had a varied career in the theatre, film and television. Beginning her interest in Theatre as a teenager treading the boards of Millom Palladium as part of Millom Amateur Operatic Society, she then followed her dreams by studying at Cumbria Institute of Arts in Carlisle and then onto Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Obtaining a Class 2:1 Honours degree in Drama and Education, Jakki then worked as an Actress in Theatre, short film and television.

Working on television series The Lakes and then BBC’s Badger she also starred in ‘The Proposal’ as a short film about, you guessed it, a proposal of marriage, to which Jakki was awarded a commendation by The Royal Television Society for her acting. Another leading role in ‘Pop Song’, again a short film with an Art feel. She also appeared in several commercials, before touring with various theatre shows around the country. Jakki then took the role of House Manager at the Gilded Balloon at the famous Edinburgh Comedy Festival. Here, she met many of the country’s leading comedy performers including Johnny Vegas, Ed Byrne, Tommy Tiernan, Ardal O’Hanlon, Simon Pegg, and many more. She then toured with Johnny Vegas as his Tour Manager on his only national tour of the UK and Ireland. She even ended up in the show towards the end of the tour, as a nurse, bringing on the injured, drunken potter, following a mishap with Johnny and a pavement!

Following her touring days she then went on to work on Channel 4’s Comedy Lab with Jason Byrne, who was production manager and also appeared in the television comedy. With all this experience under her belt, she then enjoyed 10 years of promoting and managing comedy shows at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival, managing up to 32 shows in one festival. She worked with all the top comedy folk, venues and stars up at the festival. Working very closely with Catherine Tate on her show in Edinburgh which later became the brilliant ‘Catherine Tate Show’! Other names you might recognise that Jakki worked with are, Trev and Simon, Ricky Gervaise, Jimmy Carr, Alan Carr, The Mighty Boosh, Matt Horn from Gavin and Stacey fame and others, Mackenzie Crook, Danny Bhoy, to name but a small few!

Jakki also worked as an agent for Dawn Sedgwick in London who looks after Ardal O’Hanlon, Catherine Tate and Simon Pegg. She also worked with Karushi Management and promotions representing Mackenzie Crook and many other great comedians.

Before leaving London to return to her home town, Millom, Jakki set up her own Agency. Jakki Moore Managment has represented many comedy performers and actors. Currently still running, Jakki has her agency based up north and represents young and up-and-coming actors and actresses from the North, as well as established clients such as Emma Rydal from East, is East fame. ‘Moore Kids ‘ has recently seen the agency open its books to the young people training with Jakki at Rural Edge Actors, the youth theatre for young people in Millom and the surrounding areas.

It was a busy 15 years that Jakki spent away from Millom. She not only worked with the famous faces we all know and love but she toured schools with a variety of performances, she acted in Forum Theatres in London boroughs, tackling the issues of bullying and racial prejudice in the community and workplace. She has written and directed community theatre in London too.

On returning to Millom Jakki was asked to write and direct a play celebrating 100 years of Millom School for the school’s centenary celebrations in 2006. ‘Between you and me’, saw local characters come to life and local audiences enjoyed the show performed by a 35-strong cast to great acclaim.

Since moving to Haverigg, Jakki has since set up Moore Arts: Millom and The Beggar’s Theatre as we know them now and continues to run youth theatre, work in the community, organisations and run the Beggar’s.
